Vera thinks of nothing but murder all day. Her cruelty is legendary amongst the savage tribes of Siberia, where she was famous for the practice of shanshi-shanshi, a custom so horrifying that no accurate translation of it remains.  She is known by a variety of epithets: "Murderess," "Betrayer," and, perhaps more obliquely, "Candlestick Maker," but most simply know her as "She-Whose-Breath-Carries-the-Stench-of-a-Thousand-Weeping-Orphans." To see Vera is to see terror, to know her is despair.
